In terms of geography, Taiwan is just off the coast of China, near Xiamen. In fact, on a clear day, you can just about see the Taiwanese flag on the island separating the 2 jurisidctions.
There are about 140 miles separating the two and the Formosa straits are one of the most important straits in the world.

about 140 miles away. People might assume that Taiwan is part of China but I say no!!!! My whole family is from there and I will not have the China people saying that we belong to them.
