I have heard some bad reports about conditions there. Who has been there, and what did you think?

If you have a 4 hour layover or less and feel adventurous, you can take a taxi to go see the Taipei 101 building, currently the tallest occupied building in the world. Unfortunately the airport is about an hour away from Taipei so it's going to be a short trip.

If your stay is going to be overnight, I suggest doing Taipei 101, Dangshui Bridge (aka Fisherman's Wharf) at night, and any local nightmarket (the bigger the better). The nightmarket by the Grand Hotel is pretty good.

About "conditions", if you mean how safe it is, it is safe. I recently stayed in Taichung for a month in July and that area is suppose to be the worse. To be honest, I couldn't even tell until someone told me about it. It is a bit run down in some parts but you probably don't want to wonder too far from known areas anyway.

Taipei 101, Dangshui Bridge and the Grand Hotel are all pretty well known areas so you shouldn't have any troubles. The nightmarket is about 2 blocks away from the Hotel and you can ask the workers there for directions.

Get in a taxi and go to the Hsimending district of Taipei. Great for people-watching!

If it is a sin... than I am very sinny... lol I've hung out in R&S on wireless links in Las Vegas, Fargo, Kansas City, and Frankfurt (Germany, not Kentucky) airports... Perhaps there is a special level in purgatory for us... Once, during a layover in Tokyo, I started "jonesing" for lack of a connection... Or... maybe the KGB are enjoying our witty banter...

read a book or use a laptop if you have one cuz the airport shoud have wifi or play on psp and portable game systems and you can eat airport food. If you do have time i would go out or go to stores in the airport.

If you have enough time you should take a taxi to see the 101 building. It is the tallest building in the world. If you don't have alot of time to spend at least you can say you've seen the tallest building in the world.

how long? you can taxi out and go shopping, or if its at/around meal time you should definitely go out and eat. not a lot to do in the immediate vicinity of the airport though, i think.

what kind of "conditions" are you talking about?
